3 Simple Ways to Overcome Imposter Syndrome and Build Genuine Self-Confidence

Struggling with self-confidence or imposter syndrome? You’re not alone.

The good news? Building genuine confidence is possible—when you commit to a few simple but powerful habits. Here are 3 things I teach my clients to help them shift their mindset and start stepping into their greatness:

self-confidence

1. Stop Tearing Yourself Down

Negative self-talk is a habit, and it’s blocking your success. We've all been there. When you catch negative thoughts about yourself—who you are and what you’re capable of—flip them to the positive opposite. I call this Mental Tennis (click to learn how to use this powerful tool). It’s a simple way to turn negative self-talk and beliefs into their positive opposites, creating new desired outcomes.

2. Start Using Confidence-Building Affirmations

Confidence isn’t something you “just have”—it’s something you build, and anyone can do it. Repeating daily affirmations like “I am capable,” “I bring value,” or “I am worthy of success” rewires your self-beliefs and is the simplest way to begin building genuine confidence.

The most effective way to use positive mottos is to choose ones that counteract your current negative beliefs. For example, if right now you tell yourself “I’m not smart enough,” that belief will stop you from speaking up in a meeting or taking on a new challenge, which can block your success. So instead, tell yourself “I am smart enough to figure this out. I am capable of anything! I’m smart and learning more every day!”

Here are some of my favorite confidence-building affirmations:

- I am capable of achieving anything I set my mind to.

- I deserve success and happiness in my life.

- I am ready to take on new opportunities and enjoy a challenge.

- I can do it. I am strong!

- I am worthy of love, respect, and amazing opportunities.

- I bring value to everything I do.

- People like me and are drawn to me.

- I am proud of how far I’ve come and excited for what’s ahead.

- I make good decisions.

- I am confident, strong, and successful.

- I radiate positivity and attract success into my life.

- I am more than enough!

- I am good at my job (being a parent, a friend, or whatever you’d like to feel confident about).

The key is to write them down where you’ll see them multiple times a day. Every time you do, read the list to yourself and then say a few out loud. There’s power in hearing these words come out of your own mouth. Be consistent—it’s the only way to get lasting change.

3. Level Up Your Self-pride

When you take care of yourself and show up as the best version of you, that energy radiates confidence. And confidence draws people in—professionally and personally.

Confidence changes everything. It helps you show up for yourself, take risks, and go after what you truly want in life. That’s why I launched my #SelfPrideChallenge several years ago. It’s a FREE 30-day coaching email series that teaches you how to up-level your self-pride, build better habits, and practice daily mottos. It’s gotten incredible results—go sign up and give it a try, it’s FREE!
